DykesVision: Serial Sapphics / About DykesVision |
About DykesVisionOur MotivationThroughout the years, I found the portrayals of women who love women, scarce as they were, annoyingly clichéd. At one point, I decided, rather than becoming a very cranky lesbian, I should put my energy to more creative use. HistoryIn September 2000, DykesVision (the German version) was launched. The English translation of the by then "10 Golden Rules" was published in August 2001. PurposeOur aim is to document, as well as comment on, the depiction of lesbians in the mass media, especially on tv and in the movies. We also view the website as an opportunity for lesbians (and other persons interested in the topic) to voice their opinions and share their critical or creative work. Since the launch of DykesVision, several positive examples have emerged. However, they are still too few to be considered more than merely the exceptions that prove the Rules... ContributionsYour articles, essays, or satirical pieces are greatly appreciated. We would also love short (or lengthier) synopses of lesbian storylines or subtext, movie reviews, and all kinds of fan art like fan fiction, web graphics and music videos. You want to write an article about the coming out of celebrities or about subtext in CSI and Enterprise? A lesbian tv guide for your country? Go ahead. Write it and send it in! We are always interested in screen caps, and, whenever you find a "tv lesbian's" interview about her roles, reactions, or lesbianism/bisexuality in general - sneak it over please? Topics and FandomsThe title pretty much says it all. The main topic is lesbians in the mass media: where, when and how they appear. We try to cover movies and tv shows with lesbian subtext and subplot(s) just as much as those featuring lesbian protagonists. Because some shows are more widely aired than others, it is unavoidable that they will have more material relating to them. That is part of the purpose of DykesVision: to bring these lesser known shows to light and discuss their approaches to lesbianism. At this point, our archive includes the tv-shows ER, Buffy, All My Children, The L-Word and quite a few more. The movie list is also long and still growing. If you know a show or a movie that's not listed yet, or if you would like to join the recap team for a show, please let us know. Just a geek? For the more technically inclined, there are all sorts of jobs available. Just drop us a line about what you would like to do! FeedbackFEEDBACK is part of the fuel that keeps us going. Visitor numbers alone do not tell much. So please don't hesitate to voice your opinion, send us constructive criticism, any questions or suggestions you may have, and all the praise you can afford! We love what we're doing and we want you to enjoy it, too. For general feedback, please use our
feedback form. Please note: at the moment this is the only way to contact
the DykesVision team. I'd like to help out, but I'm not gay/ bi/ a womanSo? No problem, no excuse. We are pretty liberal! The only prerequisites are a strong interest in, and critical approach to, the representation of lesbians and bisexual women in the media. Meanwhile, a whole team helps running this site, which is not only a relief regarding the workload, but more importantly, it is much more fun! Many thanks to Gwyn, LeMeep and KyaNite. Ivanova Visit the gang! Leave your feedback or discuss lesbians in the media in our forum. We hope you'll enjoy your stay! |
