Note: in the Maggie-Bianca scenes for today's episode, I have set some exchanges apart and transcribed the lines verbatim rather than trying to summarize or paraphrase. I figure it's easy to imagine Elizabeth Hendrickson and Eden Riegel acting their hearts out, and since the dialogue and monologues are so critical to Bianca's character and storyline right now, it might make sense for those who haven't yet seen the episodes to have all the lines as they appeared in some scenes or parts of scenes.
Bianca is sleeping on her side and is startled awake by a "hey" from Maggie. "Ohhh, man," she says, and groans. Maggie, once again clad in the hideous cargo capris she was wearing during the Orgo Scandal back in May, has brought Binks some cafeteria coffee, but she's not interested. She suddenly remembers the wedding and bolts into a sitting position but is smacked back by her hangover. Maggie asks if Bianca remembers any of the previous night. Binks remembers going to "that horrible bar," and apologizes for having been "completely out of control." Maggie tells her she's got nothing to be sorry about and gives her the coffee. Maggie asks if Binks remembers what she told Maggie. Bianca thinks she must have said a lot of things. Maggie means after they came back, before Bianca passed out. Binks picks up on something in Maggie's voice, and her eyes start moving. She looks a little concerned, but she seems to try to play it off. "What?" she says; she doesn't remember. Maggie says that Bianca said she was "scared . . . really really scared, and you didn't want 'it' to happen again." Bianca wants to brush it off and says that "last night was enough humiliation to last a lifetime." Maggie's not going along. She knows that Bianca hadn't been talking about the bar. "You said 'rape.'" Bianca looks a little stunned and even more shifty-eyed. Commercials.
Jack has honeymoon plans, and Erica practically wets herself with relief. They make cute for a few lines in gay fashion. Jack sets the scene in the south of France. Erica guesses correctly that they're going to the Colombe d'Or. Jack calls her "mon cherie," which is wrong but cute. And then there's "Cap Something Something." I wish I knew more about France. Jack gets around to the real gist, which is that they bring "some company." Before Erica freaks, Jack explains he was thinking about bringing "the whole clan," which at this point means Binky, Kendall, Reggie, and Lily (his adopted, autistic daughter) as well. Erica stares at the note from Kendall for full anvil impact and then agrees. It really does sound sweet. And Erica thinks it'll be good for Binks with getting over Lena (no! boo!). Calling Bianca's trials of late some "unpleasantness she's been feeling," La Kane unwittingly delivers the understatement of the year. Jackson says that they'll love Bianca so much that Erica won't need to worry anymore.
Sitting on Maggie's bed, Bianca looks scared. "I said . . ." she gasps. She doesn't say the word. "I said that?" Maggie nods portentously. Bianca chalks it up to drunken hallucinations and tells Maggie to forget it. Maggie "can't," though, because of what Bianca said about wanting her to make sure "he" didn't come to her while she was sleeping. Maggie wants to know who it is. Bianca tries to cover again and gets up feebly, putting on her pants. She wants to leave to get back for the wedding, but Maggie reassures her that she called Erica last night and this morning. "What did you tell her?!" Bianca freaks. Maggie didn't tell her anything; she made out as though they were having a slumber party. Binks grudgingly thanks Maggie and says again that she needs to get moving. She promises to return the t-shirt. Maggie wants Binks to stay and talk. Bianca doesn't think there's anything to talk about. Maggie says it's clear that something is wrong with Binky and that everyone is "very, very afraid." This gets Bianca pissed, and she says they shouldn't be. Ooh. Eden deliver this perfectly icy-angrily, with the trademark voice-shake and peeved not-quite-eye contact.
Maggie keeps pushing: "[S]omething has happened, hasn't it? Something has happened, something awful." "Yes," Bianca says, exasperated. She says it's the breakup with Lena. And she does something here: "I'm sorry, Maggie; I was in love with her; I just can't get over it that easily." What was she doing there? The tone in her voice suggests sarcasm, almost, as if Binks can't quite shake the awareness that she's still performing her breakup like a role, and is unable to believe the version of events that she herself has decided to stick by. Or is it a tiny bit of cruelty? Maybe she wants to sound as though she thinks Maggie can't understand, since Maggie's relationship with Henry was such a joke, and Maggie once could have had Bianca if she wanted her, but she proclaimed her straightness and that was the end of it. I don't know exactly what was going on there, exactly what Bianca was trying to make Maggie think, but Eden sure zings those lines.
Maggie rightly points out that a breakup won't make a person afraid of being touched or afraid, period. "Bianca," she pleads, "were you raped?" Bianca can't say anything, and whereas her mouth was hanging open in exasperation just a moment ago, it stays open as her expression turns simply to hurt and helplessness. She looks back at Maggie with swimming eyes, looks away again, and bleats, "I gotta go." She knows she's about to lose it. She gets her stuff together and turns to leave, but Maggie has gotten up and stood between her and the door. Maggie won't let her leave. Bianca flashes back to Michael locking the door during Voldemort, and she freaks and tells Maggie not to lock the door and to let her go. Commercials.
Bianca is freaking out and telling Maggie not to lock the door. Maggie says it's okay and that she didn't. Poor Binks stared at the lock while backing away from Maggie. "Bianca, what happened?" For a second, Binks looks like she might break, but with a gasp she says:
Bianca: I can't. I can't, I can't, I can't talk about it, I can't, I can't do it, I won't.
Maggie: Bianca, you cannot shut down on me right now, ok? I love you; I just want to help you. If it happened, if you were raped, you have to talk to someone about it, you have to let it out; you cannot keep it locked up inside. It will not make the pain go away; it will not make it better. I want to do what you asked me to do, remember?
Bianca looks at her.
Maggie: I want to make sure that he never comes near you ever again, but I can't do that unless you talk to me. I'm your friend; just tell me, please, tell me what happened.
For the second time, Bianca looks as though she's about to break. She's looking at Maggie; her eyes fill with tears and her chin trembles, but she stands up and says that she can't. Maggie goes to her and says that she'll help her. Bianca says it'll all come back, and she can't, because she can't let it be real; she "can't let him touch [her]." "Oh, God," she says, and falls to her knees. She tries to keep from sobbing and takes in a jagged breath. "He hurt me," she finally says. "He held me down . . . and he hurt me." And if you can believe it, this is not the most devastating part of this episode. Commercials.
Maggie kneels down just behind Bianca and to her right. "It's all right; he won't hurt you," she says. "He won't come near you ever again." "He never left me," says Bianca. "I hear him. I feel him. I see him. He's with me now. He's still inside me." (If that is some depraved writerly foreshadowing of the disgusting Voldemort 2.0, then fuck you, McTavish, and fuck you, Frons.) "Then we'll make him go away," Maggie says. Bianca sounds almost sorry for Maggie, who doesn't understand. "I can't. I tried."
Bianca: I thought that I could talk to him, that I could escape, but he was so angry and so strong. He grabbed me, and held me down . . . I can't, I can't do it, Maggie, please don't make me say it
Maggie: Come on, ok, you have to. I will help you.
Bianca: I don't want it to be real.
Maggie: But I'm real, and I won't leave you, ok? We will do this together, ok?
Bianca looks at Maggie.
Maggie: When did it happen?
Bianca: The night of the storm. I went back home, and the power was out. It was so hot and dark. I couldn't see anything. Just black. But he was there, waiting for me, at Myrtle's.
Maggie: Who was there?
Bianca: You know who.
Maggie: So nobody else was home.
Bianca: No. And I didn't even see him at first. I didn't even know he was there, until he lit his lighter under his face like a Halloween mask.
Maggie: Oh, my God.
Bianca: He asked me to light a candle . . . and he apologized? He said he didn't mean to make me scared. But I saw his face. I saw his eyes, Maggie, and I was scared. And I didn't know what to do. I just wanted him to leave. And I asked him to go, but he wouldn't go. And I just thought, "somebody else is gonna come home."
Maggie: (almost inaudible) And no one did.
Bianca: No. And so I just tried to keep him calm; I was so stupid, Maggie
Maggie: No, you didn't do anything wrong, Bianca.
Bianca: He wanted to dance . . . and he locked the door. And made me dance with himI didn't want to.
Maggie: No. I know you didn't. It's ok.
Bianca: His breath was . . . lemony. I couldn't get away from it. And the door just seemed so far away, and I didn't know how to get there. And I didn't know how to get away from the music and his voice and . . . his eyes. I made a mistake . . .
Maggie: No, you didn't; you didn't do anything wrong.
Bianca: I did. I made him angry. I hit him. Hard. With a poker from the fireplace and I just ran; I just ran, just run, just open the door, like I've done a thousand times and then I would be free, but . . . he caught me . . . and he threw me back.
Maggie is on the verge of tears.
Bianca: (sighs) The shirt . . . the sh--, the white shirt, the one that Lena likes . . . he tore it. And I screamed . . . so loud . . . but there was nobody to hear it . . . except him . . .
Maggie is crying.
Bianca: . . . and he covered my mouth. And I hit him. I kicked him. Just to try to make him go away, just make him go away. Oh, but he was so strong. Ugh. I asked him not to. I said, "Please don't, please don't do this." Why did I say "please"? God, why didn't I fight harder?
Maggie: No, you fought back; you didn't do anything wrong; it is not your fault.
Bianca: He never even blinked. And I just tried to pretend that I wasn't there, that it wasn't me, but it was me. It was me. And he wouldn't stop. And he was ripping me in half, and he wouldn't stop. Oh, my God. I thought it would kill me. . . . Afterwards.
Maggie: What?
Bianca: I wish he had . . . killed me.
Maggie: I am so sorry. I am so sorry. It's over now. It's over now.
Bianca is choking on sobs. Maggie pulls a blanket off her bed and brings it to Bianca.
Maggie: I won't hurt you, ok? I'm not gonna hurt you.
Bianca nods. Maggie kneels next to Bianca, puts the blanket around her shoulders, and puts her arms around her.
Maggie: I love you. I love you and you're safe now. Oh, God, you're safe.
Jerica. Jack has a wedding present for his bride-to-be. He presents her with a jewelry box, which she opens, and she goes orgasmic over it. It's a bracelet. I can't tell if it has diamonds or if it's just otherwise shiny. Erica slips it over the hand with the Grape Ring Pop he gave her for their engagement, and Lucci, like the pro that she is, puts her arms around Walt Willey at the optimal angle to show off the new Shop the Soaps item. Erica says she's finally found peace. She wants Bianca to find some, too.
Maggie and Bianca. Maggie's arms are still around Bianca.
Maggie: Why don't you just tell somebody?
Bianca: Who could I tell?
Maggie: Your mother . . . she's been through this before.
Bianca: Yeah, I know. And if I told her, it would just bring it all back. It would be her rape all over again. How could I do that to her?
Maggie: You told me. You told me, and now we have to do something about it. Because he's still out there, and he could still come after you, so what we have to do now is that we have to go to the police. Ok, so you know what, maybe what we should do is write down a description (grabs a notepad and pen) can you tell me um, you know, how, what was he wearing? Is he tall, is he short, is he old, is he young?
Bianca: Maggie, that's not necessary.
Maggie: Of course it's necessary. The better the description, the better chance we have of getting this guy.
Bianca: I know him.
Maggie: What? You know him?
Bianca nods.
Maggie: Who is he?
Bianca: It was Michael. Michael Cambias.

Next on AMC: Bianca tells Maggie she can't tell anyone ever about the rape. |
Maggie is shocked. "Michael Cambias raped you?" Bianca nods warily. "Okay," Maggie says. She gets up and grabs the phone. Bianca freaks. "Maggie, wait! Who are you calling?" "I'm calling your uncle Jack!" (Who is also the District Attourney.) Bianca grabs the phone. "You can't!"
